At Maryland Small Arms Range, we sell both regulated and non-regulated firearms. Non-regulated firearms include most rifles and shotguns while regulated firearms include most handguns and revolvers and require a Handgun Qualification License (HQL).

Non-Regulated Firearm Purchase:

A non-regulated firearm sale will fargo the Maryland State Police background check and 7-day waiting period. Instead, the applicant must complete the ATF 4473 Form during the time of purchase. Once this form is completed, we will call the ATF Hotline to perform an instant background check.

Regulated Firearm Purchase:

Effective January 1st 2017, the Maryland State Police will no longer accept the paper Application of Affidavit to purchase a regulated firearm (77R). The MSP will now be accepting the 77R-E, an electronic application submitted via MSP's online Licensing Portal.

Electronic Process to Purchase a Regulated Firearm:

1. Applicant must create an account on the MSP Licensing Portal --  licensingportal.mdsp.maryland.gov

2. Applicant must complete and submit a new 77R-E application within his/her Portal account

3. When ready to purchase a firearm, the applicant must bring their 77R-E application number and unique PIN (emailed to him/her upon submitting his/her application) to us and we'll get the application completed and submitted to MSP. The applicant is required to pay a $10.00 application fee to the State (CREDIT CARD ONLY) at the time of purchase.

4. After application submission to MSP, there is a 7-day waiting period before the applicant may take possession of the firearm being purchased. During the 7-day waiting period, the MSP Licensing Division will perform a series of background checks to determine his/her final disposition. Once completed, MSP will assign the final disposition to the application and an automated email will be sent to the applicant.

5.  After the 7-day waiting period, if  the applicant receives a disposition of NOT DISSAPROVED, they may return to MSAR to take possession of the firearm being purchased. Again the applicant must  bring us their 77R-E application number and Unique PIN to complete the transaction.
